On Wednesday 25th November 2009, Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council in conjunction with Hibernia Atlantic hosted an Information Seminar in South West College Dungannon, on Project Kelvin International Telecommunications Link.  The seminar was aimed at providing local businesses with an insight into the range of opportunities that will arise from this 30 million euro cross border project. The new link will interconnect with Northern Ireland’s existing telecommunications infrastructure at a number of different locations throughout Northern Ireland, including Dungannon.

Speaking before the event Chairman of Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council’s Economic Development Sub Committee, Councillor Walter Cuddy stated, “Local businesses selling goods and services overseas can now take advantage of greatly improved connections in the international telecommunications market. Project Kelvin will open up new markets and new trade opportunities for the region”.

Hibernia Atlantic was contracted by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) for Northern Ireland and the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources (DCENR) for the Republic of Ireland to install the new cable network and is committed to having the new infrastructure in place by March 2010.

Fergus Innes Vice President of Sales (Europe), Hibernia Atlantic said,

“Hibernia Atlantic is delighted to have participated in this business seminar organised by Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council. The seminar is a great example of how a collaborative approach can help the local business community and see how the new telecoms infrastructure will deliver faster, lower cost and resilient international connectivity. The telecoms infrastructure in Northern Ireland has always been good; it is just going to get a whole lot better.  쳌 This project has the potential to bring numerous benefits to existing businesses and new investors in this region and it is vital that key stakeholders understand the benefits offered by Kelvin. It allows local businesses and entrepreneurs to avail of a new wealth of capacity and the ability to directly and securely connect to Canada, US, GB and mainland Europe, thus putting Dungannon truly on the international stage.”
