'An Teaghlach Óg'

Irish Language & Cultural Forum

What is An Teaghlach Óg?
A group of people/forum in the Dungannon/Cookstown Council District area who have an interest in Gaeilge language and culture.  'An Teaghlach Óg' plan to meet together on a regular basis through social events and public meetings which celebrate Gaeilge language and culture and to communicate with each other regarding local activity on its behalf.

Why 'An Teaghlach Óg'?
After public discussion (which will continue on a regular basis as part of Dungannon South Tyrone & Cookstown Council’s Irish Development Programme) it was apparent that Irish Speakers & those interested in Irish language & culture required communication, co-operation and support from one another and that it would be beneficial to organise a series of events together to celebrate the great work which is already being done and to develop, promote and celebrate the Irish language and culture .  This name was chosen as a reflection of the historical O Néill site 'Tullyhogue' which is situated between Dungannon and Cookstown. 'An teaghlach Óg' a modernised adaptation of the word means 'The Young Family'.  The Irish Development programme is indeed at a young stage but it is hoped that this 'family' will unite, develop and flourish.

Who are 'An Teaghlach Óg'?
Everyone and every group is welcome! Individuals who have an interest in the Gaeilge language or who would like the opportunity to learn about it and celebrate it as well as representatives from various groups which have a cultural element e.g GAA, Scór, Conradh na Gaeilge.
