Dungannon Amateur Swimming Club
Dungannon Amateur Swimming Club is a voluntary organization set up by parents of young people who enjoy swimming. It is in existence for over 20 years.
Our aim
The aim of the club is to promote swimming and to encourage each member to improve their personal swimming standard and to enjoy swimming. We try to achieve this through teaching and participation in galas.
- Main Organisation
The club is affiliated to SWIM IRELAND, and all swimmers are insured through the Ulster Region of Swim Ireland
- Where do we swim?
The club meets for swimming training in DUNGANNON LEISURECENTRE on THREE evening per week:-
- Tuesday 6.00pm - 7.30pm
- Thursday 6.00pm - 7.30pm
- Sunday 6.00pm - 7.00pm
The swimming season starts in mid-August and continues to mid- June.
- Coaches
We have one coach who is assisted by a number of parents who have Assistant Teachers Certificates.
- Galas
Throughout the year the members have the opportunity to compete in competition galas either as a team or individually. The primary school age group competes in the Tele-tots league while the older swimmers compete in the Provincial Towns League.
These are usually on a Saturday. Individuals also have the opportunity to compete against swimmers form other clubs throughout Ireland, in open galas provided they can achieve the relevant times.
For our own members there is an end of year Gala and Awards night.
- Other Events
During the month of June a weekend is organised at an Outdoor Pursuits Centre for those over 10 years of age, whilst the younger swimmers have a day trip.
A barbecue is also held in June.
Occasionally fund raising evenings are held.
- Membership
Full membership of the club for those who swim one night is £90, for two nights is £115 and three nights is £135, payable in full or by quarterly instalments.
There are special arrangements for families of three or more. The membership includes registration with Swim Ireland, insurance, transport to club galas and entry in some open galas. A membership application form is available on request from a committee member (names are on the Swimming Club notice-board).
