Neighbourhood Renewal
Overview
Neighbourhood Renewal is a recent Department of Social Development initiative which aims to improve the quality of life in a number of areas in Dungannon and Coalisland.
A Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership will be set up to develop the initiative and will include representatives from local community groups, local councillors, Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council, Surestart, NI Housing Executive, Armagh & Dungannon Health & Social Services Trust and other organisations working within the vicinity.
Key themes
- Community Renewal
- Economic Renewal
- Social Renewal
- Physical Renewal
The Neighbourhood Renewal areas are based on Census results which highlighted a number of the worst affected areas in Dungannon and Coalisland which have fared less favourably than others.
Neighbourhood Renewal is aimed at tackling some of the key issues and at improving the overall quality of life within the designated areas. Given the extent and scale of problems in some areas, it is recognised that these issues will not be resolved overnight and a longer term approach will be required. Following public consultation, a 3 year Action Plan will be developed and this will seek to address some of the priority issues and to identify solutions which will create safer, stronger and healthier communities.
The Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership welcomes any views you may have in relation to improving your neighbourhood and if you would like to learn more please contact the Neighbourhood Renewal Officer on 028 8772 8611
