Recycling

IT'S BLUE BIN WEEK

Everything we do creates waste. We live in a throwaway society creating more waste than ever before. Each household in Northern Ireland produces over one tonne of waste a year. Only about 10% of this is currently recycled! The rest goes to landfill were it takes hundreds of years to break down. Today with ever increasing costs of disposal, decreasing space for landfill and EU laws and legislation, Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council recognise that we must make recycling a priority if we are to live sustainably.

Councils are required to recover 40% of their household waste by 2010. Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council have introduced a number of schemes to help meet that target and call on the good will of the public to engage with us in achieving that goal.
