Community Safety

Working together for the safety of the community

Community Safety is about working together in partnership to reduce crime, the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour.

In 2003 a Community Safety Partnership was set up by Council, to drive community safety forward. A range of organisations from the statutory, voluntary and community sectors work together to tackle issues that affect people's rights to live without crime, the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour.

The Community Safety Partnership’s aim is to make Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough a safer place to live in, work in and visit.

The Community Safety Partnership is currently delivering a one year Action Plan for 2011-12.  Projects funded for this year include:

  • youth diversionary activities
  • alcohol and drug awareness
  • home safety support
  • home safety equipment and information
  • safe place for young people on Saturday nights
  • a trailer marking programme
  • establishment and support of Neighbourhood Watch Schemes.
