Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council established a District Policing Partnership (DPP) under the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 (as amended) in December 2004.
Dungannon and South Tyrone District Policing Partnership (DPP) is a partnership between the Council and the community. It is an independent body established by law and is made up of 17 people – nine local Borough Councillors (known as the Political Members) and eight Independent Members.

Dungannon and South Tyrone DPP has a statutory remit under Section 16 of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 (as amended) to carry out the following:
1. To consult with the public to find out the key issues of concern relating to crime and policing in the Borough Council area.
2. To identify policing priorities and recommend these to the District Commander for inclusion in the Local Policing Plan.
3. To monitor police performance as it relates to the Local and Northern Ireland Policing Plans.
4. To gain the co-operation of the public with the police in preventing crime.
5. To act as a general forum for discussion and consultation on all matters relating to the policing of the area.

Dungannon and South Tyrone DPP will hold at least four monitoring meetings and two discussion forums in public each year at various venues throughout the Borough. Members of the public are welcome to attend to observe proceedings and raise issues relating to policing or crime in the Borough.
Members of the public also have a right to ask questions of the police through the Chairman of the DPP. Questions are welcome from any person living or working in the Borough or any person directly affected by policing in the Borough. Written questions submitted will be raised at the meetings in public as detailed below.

Grants to Groups to Facilitate Consultation with the Police
Dungannon and South Tyrone District Policing Partnership also administers small grants to facilitate consultation between the police and the local community.
Two types of grant are available:
Grants to established community based police liaison committees
A CPLC may apply for a grant of up to £400 to facilitate regular consultation with the PSNI. The grant relates to costs associated with venue hire, providing refreshments and administration.
Local community groups are eligible for financial assistance to meet an identified need to consult with the police on a one-off basis. Grants of up to £60 are available to meet costs associated with venue hire, publicity, refreshments, etc.
These groups must be
representative of the community in which they live
properly constituted
work in partnership with local police and other agencies
define local policing issues
assist in establishing policing priorities in their community
have a bank account opened in the name of the group.
