Dungannon has scooped first prize in the prestigious Ulster in Bloom competition – for the fourth time! Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council’s Mayor Councillor Francie Molloy has commended the work of Council staff and that of the wider community in the town’s success.
“This is a major achievement for Dungannon, making it recognised in the wider community and contributes well to the future development of Dungannon. I would also like to congratulate the village of Moy in their success in the competition, having secured second place in the large village category. The village of Moy is the gateway to the North East and is the approach to the town of Dungannon, and often remarked on as an attractive and inviting entrance to Tyrone. Winning such competitions helps to enhance civic pride and promotes Dungannon as a centre for economic development and investment, and a place where people want to work and live.”
Councils Director of Technical Services, Bertie McMinn also recognises the benefits of winning such highly esteemed awards:
“Winning Ulster in Bloom puts Dungannon on the map as a place of beauty for tourists and residents alike. The town had major competition from others in the same category such as Coleraine, whilst Moy came second to Broughshane. I would like to extend particular credit to the communities of Ballygawley Road and Milltown areas of Dungannon who ensured that their areas were looking their best in time for the competition, and incorporated the upkeep of the towns two main parks. I would also like to pay credit to the Council workforce including everyone in horticulture, grounds maintenance and street cleansing for their dedication and efforts which secured this prestigious win.”
