Council asks for Community Involvement in Cultural Issues

Publish Date: Friday, 06 May 2005

Are you interested in sport, the arts, community relations or economic regeneration? Would you like to have a say in how these areas can be developed locally? In a new bid to promote community involvement in local cultural issues, Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council is inviting members of the public to help prepare an action plan for local cultural development. A community consultation process will begin in May at different venues across the borough, and your views on how the cultural strategy will be implemented are welcome.

The plan will address key areas such as health and well being (developing recreational activities, encouraging physical exercise, protecting the natural environment), cultural and heritage regeneration (performing arts, local heritage interpretation etc), lifelong learning (nurturing creative and artistic talents), economic regeneration (developing local craft, promoting tourist facilities) and access to minority interest arts.

Aine Dolan, Community Arts Officer with Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council is hoping for a good turnout at each of the consultation venues:

“The plan will focus on issues that impact all of our lives e.g. arts and crafts, heritage and tourism, sport and play and community relations. It is vital to have the input of the wider community at this stage to ensure that we have addressed all the necessary themes.”

Consultation sessions will be facilitated by the Community Arts Forum and will take place at 7pm on Wednesday 11th May at CRAIC theatre, Coalisland, at 4pm and at 6.30pm on Monday 16th May at Dungannon Community Arts Studio, at 7pm at the US Grant Ancestral Homestead on Wednesday 25th May and at 7.00pm on Thursday 2nd June at Caledon Courthouse, Caledon.

Alternatively, you may email your comments to ddas@talk21.com <mailto:ddas@talk21.com> or post your views to ‘Culture For All’, Dungannon Community Arts Studio, Unit T11, Dungannon Enterprise Centre, Coalisland Road, Dungannon Co Tyrone.

For further information on the ‘Culture For All’ plan, please contact Aine Dolan at Dungannon Community Arts Studio on 028 8775 3626.
