Women Aim to Climb the Career Ladder through Cross Border Training Programme
A unique cross border career development programme for women working in retail begins this week. The programme offers practical certified training in Team Leading, First Line Management and lots more - and it’s free!
The ‘Retail Training for Women’ project was launched at Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council offices on Wednesday 8th September, where all fifteen participants from the South Tyrone and Monaghan area gathered at a reception hosted by the Mayor of Dungannon and South Tyrone, Councillor Robert Mulligan.
Dungannon New Deal Consortium in association with Monaghan Chamber of Commerce and Industry are offering qualifications in Welcome Host (NITB approved), Basic Food Hygiene (CIOEH), Health and Safety (IOSH), First Aid, Retail and the European Computer Driving License.
The programme consists of one afternoon and one evening of formal training per week over an eight-month period, with financial assistance available for travel and childcare expenses. Training will take place at different locations including East Tyrone College, Dungannon Development Association and Coalisland Training Services.
Well known local retail stores already signed up to the programme include Tesco, Mace, and Curleys plus many smaller independent outlets.
.
Christine Mc Gowan Project Officer believes the programme will contribute to the economic prosperity of the South Tyrone and Monaghan areas:
“The aim of this programme is to increase the supply of skilled, adaptable individuals in the retail sector and give them the opportunity to progress to management level.”
All participants are working full or part time in the retail sector who hope to progress and increase their qualifications.
If you are interested in taking part in a future training programme, please contact Christine at Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council on 028 8772 0300, extension 319.
