"ART ON THE HILL"
OPEN SUBMISSION EXHIBITION
As part of the Dungannon Borough Arts Festival, Dungannon Borough Arts Forum Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council invites Artists from all over Ireland to an Open Submission Exhibition for the "Art on the Hill" Exhibition, 1-10 May, 2009.
Selected by a prestigious panel of artists and curators, the exhibition is sited on the historic Castle Hill in Dungannon, County Tyrone. The exhibition space is positioned in a contested site - one that has been the place of rulers in the North of Ireland - from the Gaelic 'Kings of Ulster', between the 14th and 17th century, the O'Neill clan, the site of the grand 18th-century townhouse of Knox, a Scot who was gifted the town and lands of Dungannon following the Plantation of Ulster in the early 17th century, and most recently a base for the British Army.
Selection
Reflecting the renewal of the Castle Hill site, Artists are asked to submit work that is concerned with the transformation or reclaiming of space, either personal or public, following conflict or trauma. Selected artists will be awarded a small allowance towards expenses. We welcome submissions from artists whose work is both challenging and innovative. We look for the work of emerging as well as established artists working in any fine art medium.

The 2009 exhibition will be selected by a specially invited panel comprising of Philip Napier Artist, Megan Johnson Director of the Millennium Court Art Centre Portadown, Gwen Stevenson Artist and Chair of Dungannon Borough Arts Forum and Angela Hackett Artist.
