Short Story Competition Now Open for Entries
Could you be the next JK Rowling or Marian Keyes?
Dungannon Borough Arts Festival is searching for local writing talent through their creative writing competition.
This year's challenge has an environmental theme and there are two categories for entry: 12 - 18 year olds and 18 years and over.
Writer Emma Heatherington and actor Liam McMahon will act as judges for the competition, which is now open for entries which have to a be an original typewritten story of between 2,000-5,000 words.
Emma says: "Creative writing competitions are a fantastic way to get an aspiring writer started and a great opportunity to showcase your talent. The environmental theme is very broad and I look forward to reading through the entries."
The top twenty entries will be published on the arts festival website, www.dungannonartsforum.com, and the top two winners in each category will win a cash prize as follows: 12 to 18 1st £100 2nd £ 50: Over 18 1st £300 2nd £150. A prize giving ceremony to announce the winners will be held on 4th May.
Established and emerging poets, 18 years and over, are also invited to enter a poetry competition under the same theme. Entrants may submit a maximum of 3 poems each (of a maximum of 100 words) and the closing date is 13th April, with prizes as follows: 1st Prize £60, 2nd Prize £25, 3rd Prize £15
To enter the competitions, please forward your entry marked "Short Stories" or "Poem" accompanied with the author's contact details to Dungannon Community Arts Studio, Unit T11, Enterprise Centre, 2 Coalisland Rd, Dungannon, BT71 6JT. Entries must be received by 17th April at 12noon.
