DRP publish new Town Centre Parking Guide

Publish Date: Tuesday, 01 July 2008

Dungannon Regeneration Partnership (DRP) in conjunction with Dungannon LIFE and Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council has produced a new Parking Guide and Map for the town centre.

The new Town Centre Parking Guide was part of the Cross Border Retail Development Programme, a unique collaborative initiative between Armagh City, Dungannon Town and Monaghan Town. The guide received funding to of £1330 through the Interreg IIIA Programme managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the East Border Region Interreg IIIA Partnership.

The aim of the project is to educate the public on parking in Dungannon town centre and to encourage drivers to park properly and therefore improve road safety, traffic flow and accessibility for all road users.

The new publication includes a detailed map of car parks in the town centre, information about the main on-street restrictions, do's and don'ts, parking tips and a quick 60 second check. The key message is to give yourself plenty of time to get parked to complete your shopping, and be patient with other shoppers and road users.

Cllr Walter Cuddy, Chairman of DRP welcomed the publication: "Our aim is to encourage drivers to park properly and not to be issued with a ticket during their visit. Parking and traffic congestion are common issues in all town centres and we believe this new guide and map will help educate the public on the main parking restrictions in Dungannon town centre. There is no doubt that illegal car parking causes disruption to traffic and sometimes poses a threat to road users. It can also cause difficulties for blue badge holder and delivery drivers. I would therefore encourage all drivers to be aware of the parking restrictions and abide by them at all times".

The project was supported by DRD Roads Service and Liam Cunningham said: 'DRD Roads Service are very pleased to have been involved in the publication of this very worthwhile parking guide for Dungannon Town Centre'.

The new Town Centre Parking Guide and Map is free from Ranfurly House Visitor Information and Exhibition Centre, Killymaddy Tourist Information and Craft Centre, Dungannon library, local shops and outlets. A downloadable version is available on www.DungannonLife.com.

This project is part financed by the European Union through the Interreg IIIA Programme managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by East Border Region Interreg IIIA Partnership.

Mayor Cllr The Lord Morrow MLA of Clogher Valley believes this new publication will be a useful tool for visitors and regular users of Dungannon Town parking facilities. He said:

"Since the new parking arrangements came into place proper parking is vital in particular at peak times. Motorists should take extra care when parking to ensure that they consider others. I am confident that if this is done it will be to the benefit of all those using our town whether for shopping or business purposes.
Proper parking undoubtedly assists everyone and ensures the free flow of traffic, prevents traffic jams and long queues which can sometimes lead to frustration."
