Council Appoint New Mayor

Lord Maurice Morrow, who has served as a DUP Councillor since 1973, has taken over the role of Mayor of Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council for the first time.

Lord Morrow is deputised by his party colleague, Councillor Roger Burton and takes over the role from outgoing Mayor, Councillor Barry Monteith and deputy Councillor Patsy Daly.

Council adopted the D'Hondt system is 2001 which allows committee chairs and the Mayoral role to be allocated according to size over a four year period.

Committee members for 2008/09 are as follows:

DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

Appointment of 8 members to serve on Development Committee. (1 DUP, 1 SDLP, 5 SF and 1UUP)

Councillors F Burton, Donnelly, Hamilton, McGonnell, McGuigan, McMahon, Monteith and O'Neill were appointed.

PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE

Appointment of 8 members to serve on Public Services Committee. (1 DUP, 2 SDLP, 3 SF and 2 UUP).

Councillors Badger, Cavanagh, Daly, Gildernew, Gillespie, Greenaway, McLarnon and Mulligan were appointed.

CORPORATE SERVICES COMMITTEE

Appointment of 4 members to serve on Corporate Services Committee. (The Chairs of the Development Committee and Public Services Committee would also be members of the Corporate Services Committee.) (1 DUP, 1SDLP, 1SF and 1 UUP)

Councillors Brush, Cuddy, Currie and Molloy were appointed.

Development Committee - Sub Committees

CAPITAL PROGRAMMES SUB COMMITTEE

Appointment of 8 Members (two from each grouping) to serve on Capital Programmes Sub Committee.

Councillors F Burton, Cavanagh, Cuddy, Currie, Donnelly, Greenaway, Molloy and Mulligan were appointed.

COALISLAND REGENERATION SUB COMMITTEE

Appointment of Torrent Councillors to serve on Coalisland Regeneration Sub Committee.

That Torrent Councillors be appointed to Coalisland Regeneration Sub Committee.

EVENTS AND COMMUNICATIONS SUB COMMITTEE

Appointment of 8 members (one from each grouping) to serve on Events and Communications Sub Committee.

Councillors Brush, F Burton, Daly, Hamilton, McGonnell, McMahon, Monteith and Mulligan were appointed.

EQUALITY AND GOOD RELATIONS SUB COMMITTEE

Appointment of 8 members (two from each grouping) to serve on Equality and Good Relations Sub Committee.

Councillors Badger, F Burton, Currie, Greenaway, Hamilton, McGonnell, Monteith, O'Neill were appointed.

GOVERNMENT SERVICES SUB COMMITTEE

Appointment of 8 members (two from each grouping) to serve on Government Services Sub Committee.

Councillors Badger, Brush, F Burton, Daly, Gillespie, Hamilton, McGonnell and McMahon be appointed.

ARTS/CULTURAL FORUM

Appointment of 4 members (one from each grouping) to serve on Arts/Cultural Forum.

Councillors Badger, Daly, Greenaway and McLarnon were appointed.

HISTORICAL/HERITAGE FORUM

Appointment of 4 members (one from each grouping) to serve on Historical/Heritage Forum.

Councillors Badger, Brush, Cavanagh and McMahon were appointed.

SPORTS FORUM

Appointment of 4 members (one from each grouping) to serve on Sports Forum.

It was pointed out that this forum has not met. Noted that it had been recommended at the Development Committee that would set sub committee that would review committee structures therefore it was agreed to take nominations tonight.

Councillors Daly, Gildernew, Greenaway and Hamilton were appointed.

Pubic Services Committee - Sub Committees

15 SUSTAINABILTY SUB COMMITTEE

Appointment of 8 members (two from each grouping) to serve on the Sustainability Sub Committee.

Councillors Badger, F Burton, Cavanagh, Daly, Gilliespie, Greenaway, Hamilton and McLarnon were appointed.

Corporate Services Committee - Sub Committees

16 AUDIT AND RISK SUB COMMITTEE

Appointment of 8 members (two from each grouping) to serve on Audit and Risk Sub Committee.
