TRANSLATION & INTERPRETING SUPPORT FUND LAUNCHED
Publish Date: Thursday, 09 August 2007
Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council recently launched a Community Translation and Interpreting Support Fund which offers continued financial support to community groups who are developing Anti-Racism and Minority Ethnic Inclusion Initiatives for Translation and Interpreting Provision.
The Programme is focused on offering financial help to Community based groups within the Borough, such as residents associations, local ethnic identity associations, migrant worker support groups and other community groups engaged in Anti-Racism and Minority Ethnic Inclusion Initiatives, in order to cover translations and interpreting services provision.
One of the most important communication tools for an anti-racism and inclusion approach to be implemented is the use of translation and interpreting services, establishing a quality assurance system for translations and interpreting services used by those groups in order to provide an appropriate, professional and cost-effective way to reach the very often isolated ethnic minority community members. Therefore, the programme has been developed to allow local community groups to apply, according to a selective criteria, for financial help to cover costs with language needs within their community and will be co-ordinated by the Council's Anti-Racism Officer.
The Mayor commented that "This is an excellent initiative and one which is badly needed. I have worked with groups including community associations and sporting clubs who are crying out for this type of scheme. This is a great example of the Council listening to the community and delivering on their needs."
In order to qualify for this financial support, a criteria has been drawn up by Council, which can be accessed, along with further information on the initiative, by contacting the Council's Anti-Racism Officer on (028) 8772 8603.
