~Canine Health Checks on offer from Dogs Trust~
Dog owners in Dungannon & South Tyrone are being invited to a special Dogs Trust Health Check for their dog - and it won't cost the owners a penny!
Just as you would send your cars in for its annual check-up, Dogs Trust and Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council are urging dog owners to do the same with their four legged friends. At the Health Check, all dogs can enjoy a veterinary check-up, a full course of vaccinations, neutering at a local vet, worming and flea treatment plus a microchip, all absolutely free of charge. Please note that this offer is only valid as a complete package including neutering.
Health Checks take place every weekday from Thursday 9th August until Friday 14th September at a different location each day.
The free Health Check scheme has been set up by Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity, as part of their commitment to reducing the number of stray dogs. According to Dogs Trust recent survey, around 11,000 stray dogs were collected in Northern Ireland last year, of which around 4,000 were put to sleep by local authorities. While local authorities make every effort to reunite stray dogs with their owners, take dogs to rescue shelters, or find new homes, dogs are still being destroyed for want of a new home.
Ann Mullan, Dog Warden at Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council says:
"We are delighted to be working with Dogs Trust on this campaign and are keen to highlight the importance of dogs regularly getting Health Checks. We hope this will help reduce the number of unwanted puppies in the area and the number of dogs being destroyed because they are no longer wanted and cannot be re-homed. It is great to give the community something so worthwhile, free of charge."
