Publish Date: Tuesday, 03 July 2007

Work is well underway to get the site of Castle Hill ready for its official opening to the public in September. Mayor of Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Cllr Barry Monteith recently made a visit to Castle Hill to observe the hard work going on behind the scenes by Technical Services staff, who have been working around the clock to ensure that the site will be ready in time for the Flight of the Earls Festival from 6th - 9th September, when it will allow public access for the first time in hundreds of years.
As Mayor of the Borough Council, Barry Monteith stated, "I am delighted that work is progressing on Castle Hill and look forward to the Flight of the Earls Commemorations in September when the public for the first time in many years can view the ongoing work in the public area and enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding countryside."
Director of Technical Services, Mr Bertie McMinn paid tribute to his staff from Technical Services who were involved in the scheme, praising them for their hard work and efforts over the past few weeks after the grand gates at the entrance to Castle Hill were fitted last week and were made to perfection in-house by Council staff:
"The Technical Services Department is endeavouring to have certain elements of the work completed in order to allow the general public to gain access to the site. A programme of work included the erection of new temporary gate pillars and associated gates, the construction of viewing decks, and the erection of boundary fencing."
The site of Castle Hill will be opening to the public during the Flight of the Earls Festival, which is taking place from 6th - 9th September, with further details available in local press in the coming weeks or by phoning (028) 8772 8600 or visiting www.dungannon.gov.uk
