Join in the Fun at the Mayor's Pageant on Bank Holiday Monday

Make your way to Market Square on Bank Holiday Monday to soak up the carnival atmosphere at this year's Mayor's Pageant, which promises to be an exciting experience with a colourful, cross-cultural pageant, live music and a wide range of children's street entertainment providing the backdrop for a wonderful day of colour and culture!

The Pageant, on Monday 28th May, marks the end of the Mayor, Councillor Jim Hamilton's term in office and is a civic celebration for the entire Borough to enjoy. The Mayor will lead a local community pageant of colourful displays and floats celebrating culture, business, music, sports and the arts through Dungannon Town Centre.

An array of local groups will be taking part in this year's pageant, including St Anne's 1st Dungannon Scouts & Explorers, Aughintober Pipe Band, Castlecaulfield District Orange Order, Castlecaulfield Horticultural Society, Clogher Valley Brass, Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, CRAIC Arts Centre, Lisbeg Pipe Band, Edendork Pipe Band, Dungannon Motorcycle Club, Traditional Portuguese Musical Group, Curleys Supermarket, Tyrone & Donegal Exploring Diversity Ship themed float, St Annes & 1st Dungannon Scouts. Also the town centre will be a hive of entertainment with the famous Acrobats the Barren Carousel Family made up of Ruby Barren and her boneless back, Colonel Finch and his unbreakable skull, and Tulip Barren with his flying violin.

Mayor of Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Cllr Jim Hamilton is looking forward to hosting the event:
'I would like to extend a warm invitation to everyone from the Borough of Dungannon & South Tyrone to come along on Bank Holiday Monday for a wonderful, entertaining day out. In my final event as Mayor of the Borough, I would encourage you all to be part of the celebrations.'

The focus of this wonderful display will be in Market Square from 1pm where a fantastic programme of entertainment will be compered by UTV's Adrian Logan led by live music from the Boogie Men, as well as children's street entertainment, including face painting, stilt walkers and jugglers.

One of the highlights in Market Square will be the Chinese lion dancers, who will display is an expression of Asian culture which is believed to bring luck and happiness. Uni-cyclists, stilt walkers, and much, much more will contribute to an action-packed programme of entertainment so make sure to get there early to witness the amazing carnival atmosphere!

The pageant will begin its route from 2pm at Thomas Street, going on to Market Square, Scotch Street, George Street, William Street, Irish Street and back into Market Square.
