Councillors Visit Gweedore to discuss Cross Border Project
Elected Members and officials from Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council travelled to Gweedore, Co Donegal last weekend to discuss progress on the South Tyrone/Donegal Exploring Diversity Together project.
The project aims to examine youth issues and host events such as indoor and outdoor sporting tournaments, arts initiatives, cultural diversity training whilst encouraging a joint approach to tourism marketing.
Councillor David Alcorn, cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council welcomed the delegates to the residential workshop to discuss topics such as the regional and cross border context of development in the North West, protestant participation in community development activities in Donegal and the economic, social and cultural development of the Donegal Gaeltacht.
Oliver Morgan, Project Officer is confident that the initiative will boost social development within both communities:
“The South Tyrone/Donegal project will continue to enhance social and community development enabling both Council areas to build sustainable links and improve on areas of weak infrastructure.”
It is anticipated that the project will result in the establishment of a linkage between the two council’s structures and services, at elected member and executive levels.
