SEARCH IS ON FOR CREATIVE WRITERS IN DUNGANNON AND SOUTH TYRONE

The search continues for the most talented writers within the Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough area and beyond. The Tyrone Times has joined forces with Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council and Queen’s University to host a creative writing competition to commemorate the talent of Charlie Donnelly, Dungannon’ s famous soldier poet who was killed at war in Jarama in 1927.

The central theme of the competition is ‘Conflict, Spin and Propaganda’. This may be related to a diverse range of conflict situations - from full-scale international wars to conflict with peers, colleagues or even within the home.

The competition welcomes entries from a wide range of literary spectrums including poetry, prose (journalistic piece, diary entry or letter) and for those wishing to exercise their creative genius in an alternative way - script. The competition has two categories; 14-18 year old and 18 years and over and is open to residents of the SELB area which covers Armagh, Banbridge, Cookstown, Dungannon and Newry and Mourne.

The closing date for entry to the competition is Tuesday 1st June and the winners of each category will receive £100 bursary and a limited edition Tyrone Crystal Award. An additional prize of £50 will be awarded to the runner-up courtesy of sponsors Tyrone Times and all winning entries will be published in the Tyrone Times newspaper.

In addition to the prizes, consideration will also be given to publish the best entries in an anthology for next year’s event.

For further information or on the competition and to receive an application form please contact Community Arts Officer on 8775 3626.
