Dungannon Community Safety Partnership, Dungannon District Policing Partnership and the PSNI held a highly successful Youth Conference in Dungannon Leisure Centre on Friday 27th October.
The conference focused on personal safety issues, crime prevention, safety and general well-being for 15-17 year old students and was well attended by a cross selection of schools throughout the borough.
Cllr Jim Cavanagh, Chair of the Community Safety Partnership and DPP Member said,
"This event has given our young people information and advice which will help keep them safer in their everyday life. Anything that does this has to be welcomed."
Much of the information was presented in an interactive and fun way which was appreciated by many of those attending. Some comments included:
"We particularly enjoyed trying on the beer goggles. It gave us a real insight into how it is to be intoxicated!"
"I enjoyed the many aspects of the talk on Racism. There were many issues that I had not thought about before."
Nora Smith, DPP Manager, commented, "We are delighted to have organised this event which has given young people the opportunity to become clued in on issues such as self-defence, crime prevention, safety and general well-being."
Pamela Warwick of the PSNI said the event was about providing information and advice to young people in a friendly and entertaining way that is both interactive and fun.
As a follow up to this conference, issues raised will be brought forward by the three partner organisations, the Community Safety Partnership, Dungannon Policing Partnership and PSNI.
