Felix McCullough Road Race

Publish Date: Friday, 01 September 2006

The second annual Felix McCullough Road Race will take place on Saturday 16th September from Dungannon Leisure Centre. This year's event welcomes the introduction of the 4K 'Fun Run', making the race suitable for all abilities.

The race is dedicated to Felix McCullough, who was an employee at Dungannon Leisure Centre from 1993 until his sudden death from Lupus, an incurable immune system illness, at the age of 32 in early 2005. Following his death, Felix's colleagues decided to organise a 'Road Race' not to only keep the memory of Felix alive, but also to raise funds for 'Lupus Northern Ireland'.

Following last year's success when more than 200 participants took part, the Mayor of Dungannon & South Tyrone, Cllr Jim Hamilton, is expecting an even greater turnout at this year's event: "I would urge the people of Dungannon & South Tyrone, and indeed further afield, to come along and take part in this worthwhile event, which we are confident will raise a considerable amount of money, all of which will be donated to 'Lupus Northern Ireland'. We also hope that, with another successful day, the Felix McCullough Road Race will continue to be repeated and become an annual experience."

The first 300 applicants will receive a free commemorative t-shirt with light refreshments being served for all after the 'Races'.

The 4K Race will commence at 11am followed by the 10K Race at 12noon, with registration taking place from 9.30am. An entry fee of £6 affiliated (entering as part of a team) and £7 unaffiliated, with a £4 Fun Run fee, should be paid on submission of an application form. Late entries will be accepted up until one hour before the commencement of each race, however the entry fee at this time will be £10.

Application forms are available at Reception or contact Leigh Gilmore at Dungannon Leisure Centre on 87 720370. For further information, visit www.dungannon.gov.uk or email felixmccullough10k@gmail.com.
