GOOD RELATIONS PROGRAMME AUDIT

The Northern Ireland Act (1998) requires that public bodies have a due regard under section 75(1) to the need “to promote equality of opportunity” between the following nine groups: persons of different religious belief, political opinion, racial group, age, marital status, sexual orientation, men and women generally, persons with a disability and persons without, and persons with dependants and persons without.

In addition, section 75(2) requires that public bodies have a regard to “the desirability of promoting good relations” between persons of different religious belief, political opinion or racial group. Put simply the act requires public bodies to treat all nine categories of people equally and encourages public bodies to tackle sectarianism and racism.

Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council has commissioned Holywell Consultancy to carry out an audit to identify priority good relations issues in the Borough.

This questionnaire has been designed to:

• Gauge the opinion of the local population on good relations issues.

• Assess how the local public feel that the Council addresses good relations issues.

• Identify future good relations issues to be addressed by the Council.

• Give local people the chance to influence Council’s future Good Relations activities and plans.

•Identify other local (or national) organisations

All responses submitted to Council are anonymous – the Council will not be able to determine the identity of anyone who has returned a completed form.
