Help Make South Tyrone's Towns & Villages Fairtrade Areas

Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council
would like to hear from local food retailers and
catering establishments interested in taking
part in the area's new Fairtrade Town Initiative,
which will link the Borough with a UK and Ireland-
wide network of towns promoted by the
Fairtrade Foundation and Fairtrade Mark
Ireland.

Working Towards A Smoke-Free Future

The DHSSPS (Department of Health, Social
Services and Public Safety) is currently
consulting on two sets of draft smoke-free
regulations that contain the detailed
requirements needed to enable Northern Ireland
to go smoke free in April 2007.

Council Helps 'Transform' the Lives of Disadvantaged Older People

Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council is
helping disadvantaged older people in Northern
Ireland by supporting 'Transform', the Help the
Aged recycling scheme that turns discarded
goods into vital funds to sustain the Charity's
local activities.

Promoting Cross-Border Tourism Across the Blackwater

The Blackwater Regional Partnership, a cross
border initiative which aims to promote natural
resource tourism across Tyrone, Armagh and
Monaghan, recently teamed up with Flavour of
Tyrone and tourism departments in Armagh and
Monaghan to host a familiarisation trip for
accommodation providers, trainee tour guides
and tourist information staff from across its
catchment area.

Engineering Trade Mission to Magdeburg

In a bid to develop business links with
engineering firms in Germany, a delegation of
Council officials and representatives from the
engineering sector in Dungannon recently
completed a successful trade mission to
Magdeburg.

Local Youth Learn Local Government at Council Offices

Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council and
the Northern Ireland Local Government
Association (NILGA) hosted a morning of
activities on Friday 13th October, which aim to
encourage post-primary schools in the Borough
to become involvement in local government. The
event was arranged as part of Local Democracy
Week.
