Q1. What are the Registrar's opening hours?

A. Office Hours: Monday to Friday 9.30am –12.30pm and 2.00pm - 4.30pm
Friday closing at 4.00pm

Q3. I need a copy of a Birth Certificate, how do I get one?

A. Copies of birth certificates are available at the Council Offices for persons born from 1997 onwards, prior to that date they must be obtained from The Register General, Oxford House, 49-55 Chichester Street, Belfast BT1 4HL (Telephone 028 90252000).

Q4. I need a copy of a Death Certificate, how do I get one?

A. Copies of death certificates are available at the Council Offices for deaths which occurred from 1997 onward, prior to that they are available form the Register General, Oxford House, 49-55 Chichester Street, Belfast BT1 4HL  (Telephone 028 90252000).

Q5. How much notice of marriage must be given to the Registrar?

A. This should be done at least six to eight weeks before the date of the marriage, but can be done up to one year in advance. After having given notice the Registrar will advise when the Schedule of Marriage will be ready for collection.  No marriage may take place unless the Schedule has been produced. The schedule should be returned to the Registrar’s Office within three days of the marriage, so that the marriage can be duly registered.

Q6. Where can I get a Marriage Notice Application Form?

A. Marriage Notice Application Forms are available from any Registrar’s Office. The current fee is £30.00

Q7. How soon after a birth should a child be registered?

A. The birth of a child should be registered within six weeks.  This is necessary in order to apply for child benefit and to obtain a medical card for the child.  The birth may be registered, either in the district where the child was born or the district in which the Mother of the child lives.
